History & Occupation:
Cambrils may have been a settlement during the Roman period, but certainly there was a villa here alongside the Via Augusta. Being a mere few miles from the provincial capital of Tarragona, it is no surprise to find country residences in the area and judging by the size of the ruins at Cambrils, this one (the Vila of La Llosa) must have been sumptuous.
Remains and Visit:
The ruins are all low-level walls and undergo excavation every summer since 1990. The villa was found by accident during preparation for building in the area, but has now been designated a green zone and the villa is preserved. The site is not yet open as a tourist visit, being still under investigation, but the plans are eventually to turn it into an archaeological park.
