History & Occupation:
Little is known about the history of Neapolis, though finds in the area date the habitation here to pre-Roman times, with some impressive Punic finds. Neapolis seems to have thrived on a small scale as a source of Garum. As is often the case with Tunisian sites, the later arabic settlement is a little away from the site of the Roman town and so some ruins are preserved in a nearby archaeological park.
Remains and Visit:
The park was inexplicably closed upon our visit, so we visited only the museum in Nabeul town itself which has some nice exhibits, including a few excellent mosaics, but pales into insignifcance beside museums like the Bardo in Tunis or the El Jem archaeological museum. Nabeul is worth a visit if you are in neighbouring Hamammet, but not worth going out of the way for.
